From the outside, I looked successful
I had everything it took to succeed. The drive, the expertise, the work ethic. Like I was SUCCESSFUL successful.
But what people didn’t see was how stuck I truly was. I was caught up in this constant cycle of indecision and busy work, always convincing myself that I wasn’t ready. That if I could prepare just a little more THEN I would be ready to take the leap.
That feeling of being ready never showed. It didn’t matter how many hours I put in, how many books I read, or even if I consumed more & MORE content.
When it came to fully showing up for myself, I froze.
So, what was REALLY happening?
The short answer, I wasn’t trusting myself. I was trusting the path I felt like I SHOULD follow.
For years I stayed in corporate, not because I truly wanted to, but because I never stopped to question it.
Go to college, check.
Get a corporate job, check.
Work every day ‘til you die…check?
I was DOING the thing that I thought was right. The one that felt safe, expected, and responsible. But with that steady paycheck, I felt empty and disconnected from any real sense of purpose.
All of this came to a head when I realized that I was in an abusive relationship. Not to get too wound up in those details, but it showed me just how much power I had been giving away. I thought trusting someone else to lead would make things easier, but instead, I lost myself entirely.
Looking back, the pattern
was pretty clear...
I was always stuck waiting. And waiting. And oh look! More waiting.
Whether in my career, relationships, or in my life, I always kept waiting to feel ready. Waiting for permission. Waiting for proof that I wouldn’t fail.
The truth is, I hadn’t even considered what I truly wanted FROM all of this. I was so afraid to define what I wanted. I was even more afraid that if I did go for it, I’d just be setting myself up for failure.
All of this to say, I wasn’t just following someone else’s life blueprint - I was abandoning my own.
The moment I realized I couldn’t keep giving away my power was the moment everything changed.
I had to start trusting myself, there was literally no other way forward. I started restructuring my life in big ways. For the first time ever I started choosing me. This led to me starting a business while completely changing the trajectory of how I thought life should be lived!
What I didn’t realize was that I was building myself in the process
Armed with training in counseling and coaching, and a deep commitment to personal growth, I decided to take my new personal development journey seriously. Through yoga and some deep soul-searching, I learned how to listen to my inner voice, trust my instincts, and create the alignment that felt right for me, rather than just waiting for it to magically show up. And now, I help other #bossladies do the same.
